Hill Receives 2018 BEYA Student Leadership Award

Computer Science senior David Hill received the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) 2018 Student Leadership Award for his outstanding achievements and contributions as a student leader in engineering. BEYA represents global excellence and competitiveness in STEM.

Hill is devoted to supporting Washington, D.C. area youth. He teaches computer programming to underrepresented middle and high school students.

This academic year, Hill co-authored an IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers) publication on big data provenance research, while earning a 4.0 GPA. Hill was also nominated by Vice President and Chief Inclusion and Collaboration Officer at Cisco Systems Shari Slate for his outstanding contributions as a Worldwide Sales & Systems Engineering Intern in San Jose, California last summer.

Hill plans to join Boeing Corporation this summer as a strategic software engineer.

Hill was honored to receive the award:

“If Ernie Davis can excel at football, then surely with the right support, our youth can excel at R&D (research and development) and technology innovation. I hope to encourage more sports [and] entertainment celebrities and tech companies to invest in the BEYA Awards, In3DC.com, Howard University and The Philadelphia Foundation.”

We wish him success in all of his future endeavors!
